Due to heavy thunderstorms on Sunday, the downtown connector experienced flash flooding that held up drivers for nearly an hour.
Local news station WSB-TV reported that the flooding was caused by a combination of the severe rain and debris, which blocked storm grates on the connector. Drivers were trapped in both directions. Additionally, another flooding as a result of the recent rain has been reported, in particular at an apartment complex in midtown. Several cars were damaged as the water level rose to five feet.
When driving in severe weather, always be aware of road conditions, and be on the lookout for stopped cars, closed roads, pedestrians, and flooding. If you are unsure whether you can safely drive in inclement weather, always err on the side of caution. There were several reports of car accidents due to the recent thunderstorms and flooding in metro Atlanta.
